Automata is excited to announce Southland Ensembles 2018-2019 Season of 4 programs, presented between November 2018 and June 2019.  The season  opens at Automata this Saturday, November 10 with Program 1: George Brecht’s Candle Piece for Radios andother classic event scores.

This Saturday’s program inaugurates the season with Southland Ensemble’s annual FLUXUS event, featuring George Brecht’s Candle Piece for Radios among other classic event scores. Including pieces by Robert Bozzi (1966), George Brecht (1959), Henning Christiansen (1964), Ken Friedman (1965), Alison Knowles (1965), Takehisa Kosugi, Larry Miller (1970), Yoko Ono (1955), Tomas Schmit and Robert Watts (1970).

The Chinatown Get Down @ Grand Star Jazz Club

THE CHINATOWN GET DOWN is back and you’re invited to the best FUNKY MOTOWN DISCO DANCE PARTY on the planet. Yes, the entire earth!
We’ll have the incredible  DJ PHYZ ED spinning tunes who’s also DJ’ed for 100.3 THE BEAT, toured with Macy Gray, and even spun at the one-and-only Motown Records. DJ PHYZ ED grew up listening to Funk, Motown and Disco.

We’ll also be donating a portion of the night’s proceeds to the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides financial assistance to career musicians and music industry workers when facing illness, disability, or age-related problems.

“Thank You Notes” Zine Workshop @ Ooga Booga

Misa will be leading the group through making and binding a zine exploring gratitude, and reflecting on small moments of happiness through collage, drawing, stamps, and more!

Undiscovered Chinatown Walking Tour @ Throughout Chinatown

The 2 1/2 hour walking tour will take visitors to a number of off-the-beaten-track points of interest and will guide those interested in shopping to some of Chinatown’s best bargains and its trendiest shops. Wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared to wind your way through a myriad of alleyways, plaza stalls, and classical courtyards to discover the charm of L.A’s Chinatown.

Holiday Festival & Artisan Market @ UNION STATION

The Union Station Holiday Festival, the 2nd annual pop-up artisan marketplace, rolls into the station’s south patio.

The Holiday Market is the perfect antidote to the monotony of the mall with gifts from an eclectic mix of over 30 vendors.

The day-long, family-friendly holiday festival will celebrate the season with live entertainment. Local craft beer, wines and signature cocktails hosted by our very own Traxx Bar and a variety of food truck favorites will allow guests to relax and recharge.

A Little Elves Workshop, a Christmas Wish List station, a special performance, and visits from Santa will keep young visitors in the holiday spirit.

Go Metro to all events by taking the Red, Purple, Gold, or Silver Line directly to Union Station LA.
