Ramiro Gomez “Here, For A Moment” @ Charlie James Gallery
Nov 16 2019 – Jan 4 2020 all-day

Gallery Hours: Wed – Sun 12pm – 5pm
Opening Reception: Saturday, November 16, 6-9pm

Charlie James Gallery is delighted to present Here, For a Moment, the fourth solo exhibition with the gallery by Los Angeles-based artist Ramiro Gomez, opening Saturday, November 16th and running through January 4th, 2020.
In this forthcoming show Gomez is responding as always to his lived environment, but also to the tenor of the times and the weight of contemporary American disharmony. Processing recent years of deteriorating political climate, witnessing purges of working people based on immigration status, and experiencing episodes of personal loss have combined to yield a body of work grounded in ephemerality, which manifests in the show’s chosen narratives and use of materials. Gomez continues to use his photography practice as source images for his paintings, capturing scenes of working life in and around Los Angeles. Inspired as always by service workers, laborers, and discarded materials from the streets of LA, Gomez works across a wide range of media from cardboard to distressed canvas, trash bags, garden hose, found tarps and immersive mixed media installation. The show is an homage to the people who keep working amidst the increasing pressures of contemporary American life, though not explicitly an act of veneration. The show seeks to inhabit the lives of its subjects, particularly their moments of respite, reflection, and fantasy.

Holiday Festival & Artisan Market @ UNION STATION
Dec 7 @ 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

The Third Annual Union Station Holiday Festival, a dynamic pop-up artisan marketplace, will be at full steam in the station’s south patio with some of L.A.’s most sought-after artists and artisans; live entertainment; fun, free activities for kids; food trucks; and a beer and wine garden for holiday shoppers.

The Holiday Market is the perfect antidote to the monotony of the mall with gifts from an eclectic mix of over 40 vendors.

The day-long, family-friendly holiday festival will celebrate the season with live entertainment. Local craft beer, wines and signature cocktails hosted by our very own Traxx Bar and a variety of food truck favorites will allow guests to relax and recharge.

A Little Elves Workshop, a Christmas Wish List station, a special performance, and visits from Santa will keep young visitors in the holiday spirit.

Go Metro to all events by taking the Red, Purple, Gold, or Silver Line directly to Union Station LA.

Boundary/Threshold – Charity Art Show @ Eastern Projects Gallery
Dec 11 – Dec 14 all-day

Save the date: 12/11/19 (6pm) ~ 12/14/19

NAC Architecture is very happy to announce our charity event in December – Boundary/Threshold.  This is a charity art show to raise funds to purchase laptops for students at Castelar Elementary School, our neighbors in Chinatown, Los Angeles. To raise funds, there will be a silent auction of art pieces by artists and architects including pieces by a few well-established Chinese-American artists: James Jean, Victo Ngai and Tommii Lim.

Boundary/Threshold is a transition between two different spaces. If a building’s façade represents the material boundary between inside and outside, then its openings become thresholds. The art of this exhibition explores the notion of this liminal state by examining visual relationships, purpose, geometry, rhythm, composition, aperture, color, materiality, context, and the impact of separating two, or more, characteristics.
