“Chinatown Art Night” Returns on July 11, 2009
Free Quarterly Art Walks Through Chinatown

Los Angeles, CA (July 2, 2009) --Enjoy an evening of art viewing as you stroll the alleyways and courtyards of Chinatown, home to 32 of L.A.’s most cutting edge art galleries and some of the most talked-about exhibitions in the country. “Chinatown Art Nights” is a quarterly series of free art walks along Chung King Road and the streets of historic Chinatown. Illuminated by lanterns and accented with the smell of incense, the self-guided walk promises a sense of history as well as the excitement of new discoveries.

Chinatown first attracted an underground community of art lovers, bargain hunters, and trendsetters a decade ago. These artistic pioneers have since opened boutiques, studios, and galleries here and have made the retro nightclubs trendy once again. Newly restored buildings with 40s era neon lighting and free weekly cultural entertainment in Central Plaza now enhance the attraction of the area.

The next “Chinatown Art Night” will take place on Saturday, July 11. Many gallery owners--and some artists--will be on hand from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. to answer questions and provide commentary on their exhibitions. Light refreshments will be available in most galleries, and restaurants in the area will remain open for pre- and post-art walk dining. The many antiques stores and curio shops for which Chung King Road is famous will also be open extended hours that evening. Adjacent parking is $3-$5. Gallery maps will be available at each gallery courtesy of the participating galleries and the Chinatown Business Improvement District.
